Garrett Temple of the Nets is one of the most socially conscious athletes in the country. The striving for equality and understanding runs deep in his family. His father Collis was the first African American to play varsity basketball at LSU in 1971. His father attended LSU at the same time as notorious racist and antisemite David Duke and engaged in heated debates on campus with the future grand wizard of the ku klux klan. Garrett has a positive message of understanding between the races and he shares many thoughts with Mike Wise on how to improve race relations in the United States.
